Everyone needs to check out Hanmer Springs when they next visit Christchurch. This Alpine looking village has 700 permanent residents but 550,000 visitors per year of which 530,000 go to the thermal pools and spa. The numbers don't lie and those tell you this is an awesome place to visit. It is only an hour and a half from Christchurch so make your way up here.
Given I am waxing lyrical about the location you know that the golf obviously didn't go that well don't you. I had 69 on a short three lined golf course with perfect greens which was never going to be enough for this par 68. There were 63's, fours, fives, and sixes so I only finished 16th.
I did have great fun though playing with father and son combo Michael and Brent Berry, and Michael Creagh. Young Michael has competed in a few New Zealand long driving championships and as a result was always last to tee off as he waited on 280m par 4's with three wood in hand. For those that love their numbers he has been clocked at 135 mile an hour Club head speed - WOW.
The highlight was my traveling buddy Scotty Ford having a hole in one on the 11th, a crisp 7 iron a foot past the flag and backed it up straight into the middle. Well done Scotty.
Rangiora here we come.

We had our engagement party here over the weekend. It was the perfect place to host dinner and have a couple of drinks for 50+ people. Great atmosphere. There are kitchen facilities which we could use & bar staff were great. They had the fires roaring and pool & darts for entertainment. Would definitely recommend the Golf Club for private functions in the future. Thanks guys!!!

Hanmer Springs is an extremely well presented eighteen hole golf course and whilst the layout itself may not be the most exciting around, it is nonetheless still very very good. The fifth and seventeenth holes are both top drawer Par threes worthy of mention and there are also some very good short 'risk and reward' Par fours.
This is a breathtaking place to play golf, the mountain backdrops are simply majestic and the members and management are extremely friendly and welcoming...

8 of us from "The Telegraph Hotel 3 Putt Club" from Golden Bay.
have just spent the weekend in Hanmer Springs on our annual golf trip. As usual the course and greens were in excellent condition, and the hospitality back in the clubhouse was excellent. You can be assured we will be back. Thanks .

Great challenging course getting a little dry. I felt I could have played better good value for the reasonable green fee

Great 18 hole course that is quite open and forgiving if you don't stray too far. Always in good condition

Great little course nice and flat easy to walk, if you're carrying.
